About:

The Way We Work

A clear process, from first look to documentation, decisions, and long term care.

Respecting the past, building the future

At Adin, we combine deep respect for history with a structured and forward-looking way of working. Every jewel is carefully researched, restored when possible and documented with precision. Ourself-developed system Itilium safeguards expertise, while our library, glossary and educational projects keep knowledge alive. In all we do, we remain true to our credo: “Guardians of history for future generations.”

A responsibility to the past and the future

At Adin, everything begins with a sense of responsibility to the jewels, to their history and to the generations yet to come. Guided by our credo “Guardians of history for future generations”(Custodes historiae pro posteris), we see every piece not merely as an object of beauty but as a fragment of human heritage. This belief shapes how we select, study and, when possible, restore and document each jewel that enters our hands.

Selection and authenticity

When choosing a jewel, we look for authenticity, character and historical significance. Not every beautiful jewel qualifies. A piece must be true to the spirit of its time and made with integrity. We seek jewels that speak clearly of the era in which they were created, allowing each one to serve as a small but genuine witness to its period in history.

Restoration and craftsmanship

When restoration is required, we entrust our jewels to our professional goldsmiths, stone setters and stone cutters, all highly specialised in antique jewellery. Their work is guided by respect for the original creation and by techniques that preserve rather than alter. Within Adin, we maintain a carefully built collection of gemstones classified not only by type but also by age, allowing us to find historically accurate replacements when needed.

Knowledge preservation and Itilium

Long before artificial intelligence became a topic of interest, Adin created its own intelligent internal system called Itilium. The name unites information technology (IT) with the Latin-inspired suffix “ium”, as in the noble metals platinum, iridium and rhodium, symbolising the bridge between digital structure and material heritage. The foundation of this system was laid in 1987 and it continues to evolve through ongoing collaboration with specialised programmers. Itilium records, connects and analyses information about each jewel, from origin and style to technical characteristics and value, ensuring that expertise remains traceable and alive within Adin.

A trusted reference within the profession

Over the years, Adin has become a trusted reference for fellow jewellers and goldsmiths, not only in Belgium and the Netherlands but far beyond. Professionals regularly turn to us for advice on antique jewellery, confident in the depth and reliability of our expertise. Many refer their private clients to Adin, knowing they will be received with the same care and integrity that guide all our work.

Sharing knowledge and looking ahead

Sharing knowledge has always been part of Adin’s mission. Through initiatives such as the Adin Academy and Adin Gifts, we make the world of antique jewellery accessible in a playful yet profound way. Our extensive library is available by appointment to those who wish to explore specific subjects in greater depth, while our website offers a lively and ever-growing glossary of jewellery terms and a detailed overview of stylistic developments over the past four to five centuries. By combining human expertise with digital tools such as the Adin NFTwins, Adin ensures that the legacy of fine jewellery remains not only preserved but also understood, appreciated and carried forward into the future.
