A variety of coral that I black and grows in the form of thin tree-like stalks. The Italian name is giojetto, and in Malay it is called akabar. In Java it hasbeen made for over 2000 years into bangles to be worn as an amulet against poisoning and as a cure for gout, and also as prayer beads and necklaces. In the West Indies long straight stalks are used aswalking sticks.
