A style of setting a stone in a finger ring that is a variation of the rub-over setting, in that when the stone is set in the collet a groove is cut around the exterior of the collet and the resultingraised part of the rim is pressed (rubbed) over the stone to secure it. It is used to secure a seal in a signet ring, and is a modern version of a setting so used by the Romans in the form of agypsy setting encircled by a ridge.
