tour de tête, French for frontlet. A forehead ornament in the form of a broad band worn in the 19th century on the upper part of a woman's foreheadand over the hair. Such bands were decorated with pearls, gemstones or cameos, or sometimes made of pinchbeck and decorated with paste.
