A type of chain that is composed of simple oval links of equal length which are linked alternately horizontally and vertically so that the chain can lie flat.There are a number of varieties, e.g. alma chain, barleycorn chain, belcher chain, diamond trace chain. Sometimes links of the trace-chain type are combined with the elongated links of a fetter chain.
