Having the quality of transmitting light without diffusion, so that objects (even writing) behind can be distinctly seen. If semi-transparent, the object can be seen but blurred and indistinct. Mostgemstones are transparent except when marred by flaws. Minerals that are translucent generally become transparent if cut sufficiently thin.
